Until One Day
the night you died
all I remember was the phone call
asking if they could have your eyes
shocking blue
so judgmental
with flecks of gentle kindness
that faded with any hint of joyful light
but the fear of death was
shining brightly for years
like a fire that burns a forest
with smoke so thick that it lingers in your lungs
until one day it takes you too
