Waking You Up, So I Can Fall Asleep
dead of night
almost time
to give in to tomorrow
weight of your body
lulling me to the
chaos of your atoms
keeping solid form
sleepy hand on my
heart nipple belly
sweaty feet
giving condolences to
my need of respite
you never ask
what shoos away slumber
maybe it’s my want to seize every lost treasure
hearing stories of film plots
that you never remember the titles of
defining words until
I’m satisfied with the definition
solving my unsolvable
S.A.T. math questions
that spin your brain out of control
most likely
it is letting me read
boring poetry to you
in a sleepy monotone whisper
my desires of
what-ifs and fears of everyone's looming death
keeping the next nights
sleep depravity interesting
